Interview with Me – Career Daily News
Introduce yourself in a few words.
Hello, my name is Stefan Stanev and I am a lawyer by education. I am the founder of a company that deals with trademark registration and protection, and I conduct seminars on various topics in the field of law. Over the past two years, we have had the pleasure of working with nearly 150 companies in the country. We offer trademark registration in Bulgaria, the EU, the UK, and the US, as well as global monitoring and protection of already registered trademarks. Our main focus right now is on digitizing our services, and our main goal is to offer a comprehensive brand protection service to clients from all over the world.
How would you define personal branding and why is it so important today?
A personal brand is a combination of seeing opportunities, letting them generate energy in you, and having the necessary preparation to realize them. It is not the result of a momentary flash of inspiration or a short motivational course, but of years of effort, hard work, and perseverance. Personal branding has one main purpose—to solve problems—and that is why it is so important. When you are wondering what kind of personal brand to create, ask yourself what problems you see around you and how you can solve them.
How did you start building your personal brand? What motivates you?
For me, law is a beautiful science that embodies millennia-old principles and values. Even in the most modern and innovative branches of law, we find manifestations of ancient Roman law, which creates continuity.
I believe that traditional legal services are no longer sufficient, as digitization and technological transformation have created opportunities for every company to offer goods and services worldwide. This has prompted me to offer legal services in the field of intellectual property that protect every business, whether it sells goods or services in the EU, the US, Dubai, or anywhere else. Intellectual property protection is extremely important in today’s high-tech world, as intangible assets such as trademarks, patents, or trade secrets are the foundation of most successful companies.
What are the most important elements of a successful personal brand?
In my opinion, it is very important to establish a certain routine. When you have a routine in your daily life, you are more organized and structured in your thoughts, which in turn makes you more productive at work and time works in your favor. Character is also very important because in any endeavor there are inevitably failures, and it is very important to get up after each failure and continue.
How can we find our niche and unique value?
Your niche is what you love to do. You can’t climb Everest if you don’t like hiking in the mountains. But if you regularly climb different peaks, you definitely have a chance at Everest. Opportunities are like a blank canvas for an artist. What you turn them into is entirely up to you. My advice is to consider whether the professional opportunities match your understanding of lifestyle. To become a good lawyer, doctor, or architect, you have to study for many years, which is exciting for some and limiting for others.
Should a personal brand be built around personality or expertise?
In my opinion, a personal brand is always built around personality, while expertise only reflects what you can do. Ultimately, good expertise will make people associate you with something positive, and in that sense, it is very important to present it honestly. But behind a personal brand there is always a personality with its qualities, character, and values.
What first steps would you recommend to someone who is just starting out?
The moment you embark on something, no matter what your initial plan is, it will be difficult for it to happen exactly as you imagine it. The key is to get used to living comfortably with the idea that there will always be uncertainty and risk. Thomas Edison created a carbon filament light bulb that burned for more than 1,200 hours after hundreds of attempts and experiments. “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work,” he said. During
What first steps would you recommend to someone who is just starting out?
The moment you embark on something, whatever your initial plan may be, it is unlikely to happen exactly as you imagined. In recent years, Elon Musk has had a series of unsuccessful attempts to land the Falcon rocket. It is important to be committed to the idea. You also need to focus on an activity that makes you want to get up in the morning.
What platforms are best suited for developing a personal brand today?
A lot depends on the business venture you are involved in. For legal services, LinkedIn is definitely the best platform. In recent years, TikTok has gained great popularity. It seems that whatever product or service you offer, you need to understand digital marketing.
What role does authenticity play in personal branding, and how can we maintain it?
Steve Jobs had his own vision for every detail of Apple devices. We find his minimalist philosophy in every product this company makes. As a result, Apple is perhaps the greatest company of all time. Richard Branson’s company is involved in a variety of business activities, including airlines, railways, travel agencies, and more, but they all follow Branson’s vision. Behind every beautiful building, painting, or company lies authenticity. I advise my clients to come up with a creative brand that reflects their vision for the product or service.
How can we create content that engages and builds trust?
In this regard, I am conservative and strongly believe that only content backed by expertise and knowledge builds trust. Unfortunately, I increasingly encounter fake content—people without useful habits and a good education present themselves as “motivational coaches” and promise quick success.
I believe that the most successful people possess intellectual humility and know that one must constantly learn and ask questions. When such people create content, it adds value.
What are the most common mistakes people make when building a personal brand?
In my opinion, the main mistake is a lack of good preparation. If you want to swim across the English Channel, as the amazing swimmer Petar Stoychev did, you need to have spent hundreds of hours swimming beforehand. Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps said in an interview that he had not missed a swimming training session for more than five years. Lack of good preparation often leads to promises that cannot be kept.
How can we deal with negative comments and criticism?
Having character and inner resilience helps us to separate constructive criticism from malicious criticism. When faced with malicious criticism, silence is the strongest response.
How can we avoid burnout when investing a lot of effort in our personal brand?
We all have 24 hours to achieve our goals and pay attention to the things that are important to us. Success comes when we learn to do not absolutely everything, but only the most important things that will give the best results. You’ve probably heard that 20% of our actions yield 80% of the results. And if you carefully analyze your daily work routine, you should be able to identify those 20% of truly important things. I realize that this is not always easy, as there are many challenges in our daily lives. Overheating is usually the result of a lack of sufficient energy in the body. That is why I believe that rest, sports, the sea, the mountains, and time with family are an integral part of personal brand development.
How can a strong personal brand lead to more opportunities (work, partnerships, clients)?
The goal of every business is to find and retain customers. When your personal brand is presented in a way that matches your values, people sense that authenticity and place their trust in you.
What are the best ways to monetize your personal brand?
Problem-solving skills. I don’t think anything else can lead to monetizing your personal brand.
When is the right time to start offering paid services or products?
Today, if you have the necessary preparation to solve specific problems. But if you start just because you have temporary motivation or because you have been promised quick success, things are unlikely to work out. I don’t think you need funds to start a business and/or personal brand. The idea is not that important either, as most ideas can ultimately be successfully implemented.
How can we maintain sustainability and long-term growth of our personal brand?
I read somewhere that most businesses fail within the first five years. We see even established companies losing market share. There is no 100% surefire recipe for long-term growth. Continuous improvement of the product or service, innovation, and attention to consumers are all useful things we can do to achieve sustainability and long-term growth. But even these things do not guarantee long-term growth. It is possible that a business decision based on innovation and artificial intelligence could change the market.
What habits and discipline are needed to build authority?
For me, reading is very important for building a successful personal brand. Reading long texts keeps the brain active by stimulating attention. Bill Gates reads between 50 and 60 books a year. In my opinion, if you read books, your views on life cannot help but change. The more knowledge you accumulate, the more problems you will be able to solve.
Which individuals with successful personal brands inspire you and why?
Individuals such as Prof. Zhivko Stalev, Prof. Venelin Ganev, attorney Valentin Braikov, and Assoc. Prof. Kristian Takov inspire me because of their enormous contribution to law.
I am also inspired by positive and energetic entrepreneurs like Richard Branson, who see opportunities around them and have the energy to realize them.
What three specific things can people do today to improve their personal brand?
Remove the things that hold them back, carefully analyze their strengths, and take time to rest.
